Let's see where to begin, the weekend in sports was jammed packed full of NHL All-Star festivities in Nashville, boxing in Montreal, UFC in Newark and the SEC-Big12 Challenge around the Midwest and Southeast.
I don't know where to start... First off, I will say Buddy Hield and Ben Simmons put on a show in Baton Rouge but it was Oklahoma beating LSU.
Meanwhile, a clash of college basketball royalties happened at Allen Fieldhouse as Kentucky visited Kansas and it did not disappoint at all as the Jayhawks outlasted the Wildcats in overtime.
Meanwhile, the UFC gave us another great night of free fights where Sage Northcutt didnt look so "Super" as his nickname indicates, he got beat. But he will be back, hes only 19, guys. Ben Rothwell solidified his top 5 ranking and possible next in line for a title shot after solving the riddle of the "Warmaster" Josh Barnett. The main event wasnt much of a main event as Anthony "Rumble" Johnson put Ryan Bader to sleep in their battle. Bader came into that fight with a two-year winning streak... needless to say, that went beddy-bye.
Later that Saturday night, Sergey Kovalev systematically and in destructive fashion beat Jean Pascal. Teaches Pascal a lesson that you don't accuse a Russian of being a racist, especially when he has a black trainer. Bad move, Jean, bad move.
I also love the fact that Kovalev called Adonis "superman" Stevenson, Adonis "Chickenson", EPIC and said in broken english as well.
The NHL All-Star game looked like a version of the old video game, NFL Blitz on ice. Give me 5 on 5 hockey and I will be ok and note to the NHL Board of Directors, you made a big mistake by extending Gary Bettman's contract. Two years from now, there will be another NHL work stoppage and it will be his fault.
Speaking of incompotence, The NFL Pro Bowl is yet again pointless and drafting teams where teammates are playing teammates is like telling a cow to meow. What possible person said that this was a good idea? Anyway...
All in all, it was a good weekend for sports. This week on the Tailgate Crew, A review of National Signing Day, preview the UFC on FS1 card this coming Saturday, plus much more.
