College Football Roundup June 14, 2016

Whats up tailgaters, its the Maine Event coming back with a little college football roundup. Where do we start, ok lets start with the Baylor Bears and the Art Briles situation. This situation has a lot of people baffled and people outside of Waco asking millions... and millions of questions. My main questions are "Did you do it?" "Why?" "Are you categorically stupid?" and "For this school to have as challenging of an acceptance process, did you forget to do background checks or do character studies of your student athletes?" Is the Patrick Dennehy drama that you endured in the early parts of the century beneath you now? This is not a good look for you, Baylor.

Moving on, Nike's the opening released the invitees for the Elite 11 quarterback competition, among those competing is #1 dual-threat QB Tate Martell of Bishop Gorman (NV), Sam Ehlinger of Austin(Tx) Westlake, IMG's Kellen Mond and Grayson HS'(Loganville,GA) Chase Brice. For the third year running the Elite 11 has got a star-studded lineup of the nation's best quarterbacks. This year's QB to look for is Tate Martell. He has a major league arm and deceptively fast. Drawing comparisons to Ole Miss quarterback and last year's Elite 11 MVP, Shea Patterson and Seattle's Russell Wilson, Martell is a born leader and leads by example. Talking about the aformentioned Martell, he made his verbal be known that he will be headed to Columbus to play for Urban Meyer and the Ohio State Buckeyes. This is a major coup for Urban Meyer getting the number 1 dual-threat QB in the nation and #3 overall QB. Talk about turning college football on its head, it was the concensous that said that he would definetely would stay on the west coast and play for Arizona or Oregon.

Looks as though the recruiting landscape is changing again. Where the SEC was once a foregone conclusion as a likely target for some of the nation's elite players is now changing and the bluebloods of the gridiron like the Michigans, Ohio States, Texas and USCs of the world are once again flexing their muscles again. With players like Denver's Dylan McCaffrey going to Michigan, Tyler, TX WR Damion Miller headed to Texas and top running back prospect Stephen Carr committed to USC, the parity in college football recruiting is returning.

It is 76 days away from the opening kickoff of the College Football season and I am as excited for it as anyone. I will be in front of my TV for it 10pm August 26, network has not been agreed on but I will find a way to watch it as Cal plays Hawaii in Sydney, Australia. It will be the first college football game ever played in Sydney and fourth to be played on Australian soil. Such an exciting time yet its so far away. Coming soon on the Tailgate Crew, Conference Previews, predictions and high school football, and recruiting roundup with Scott Smith. Starting July 16 with the Pac-12. As always, Let's Go Tailgatin'!!!!
