Blog Of The Weekend That Was In Sports 2/15/2016

The weekend was full of love in the air as it was Valentine's Day weekend and first weekend of lent, I did not give up anything because I knew of nothing to give up. But Cupid gave us some rather loving results from this past weekend.

College basketball got hit and bit by Cupid's arrow as #2 Maryland got ran out the gym by Wisconsin, #5 Kansas and # 3 Oklahoma had yet another classic with the same result, a Kansas win. Grayson Allen hit a last second shot to beat #7 Virginia with a kiss off the glass, noticed where I went with that... ok, I will keep going... Once again showing the unpredictability, this is shaping up to be the best season of College Basketball in a long time.

NBA All-Star weekend 2016 was epic. Surprises, shocks, Splash Brothers hitting threes nonstop.

I must say the best of the young players play for one team. Zach LaVine, Andrew Wiggins, And Karl-Anthony Towns of the Minnesota Timberwolves highlighted the weekend with their performances in the Future Stars Challenge. The thing that really shocked me was Karl-Anthony Towns winning the skills competition. I knew he had skills but not the handles of a guard.

A lot of people say that Klay Thompson winning the 3-point shootout was an upset because Steph Curry was in the competition as well but the one everyone fell asleep on was Devin Booker... too bad he plays for the Suns. I picked Klay to win this year, because Charles Barkley said we can't pick Steph. Klay scored 27 in the final round, wow.

The Slam-Dunk contest had me going back to by elementary school days where it was Jordan vs Dominique in 88, my adulthood Vince Carter in 2000, and now 16 years later Aaron Gordon and Zach LaVine put on a show that was simply once in a generation. Now I've seen some great dunk contests. In the finals, you get two chances to make people go wow. Naw, naw, not with those two, you got five rounds of the best dunks ever.

Jumping from the free throw line with a windmill then jumping over your mascot prop in a seated position, take the ball under your legs and dunk?

Or the unthinkable, free throw line between the legs... EPIC!!

The game itself was as bland as you could get, it was just like watching an intersquad game with the Olympic Team. But what I will say that it was really cool to see Kobe make his final All-Star Game appearance and have a good time.
